The Friday Muse – The Princess of Para

The frosted glass allowed the morning’s luminescence to bleed into the castle, filling the hallway with bright white light that flowed gracefully across the white marble flooring, the brownish-gray walls, and the ivory doors of the servants’ quarters. The scent of bacon and potatoes filled the wide corridor, signaling breakfast, but the silence that permeated the thick tile and even thicker walls gave the illusion it was still night when everyone slumbered and hid from the darkness within the darkness. Irasta walked barefoot across the tiles, the undersides of her feet chilled by the lingering cold that seized the fortress each night. She momentarily missed the comfort of her own…

The Friday Muse – City of Flames

Yes, The Friday Muse was gone for a bit. I’ve been so busy with the publishing company that I haven’t made time to write. Well, yesterday I sat down and belted out a good 2900 words in a short story I am putting together for an upcoming anthology. It’s a little bit fantasy, a bit superhero-themed, and a whole lotta mysterious. I’m called it City of Flames right now, and for the Muse today, I’m going to share the beginning of the story to give you a taste for what I’m working on. This is all rough draft stuff, but it’s definitely starting to take shape. City of Flames Against…

The Friday Muse – More Red Crane

Well, as of my weekly writing meeting last night at the local coffee shop, I’m about half way through the first draft of Red Crane. I’m getting more and more excited about this project as I dive deeper into it, mainly because its something outside the realm of what I’m used to writing. Instead of science fiction and fantasy, it’s detective, mystery, and a dash of noir. So, for today’s Friday Muse piece, I figured I’d give you all one more sneak peek at some of the story before I decide to lock it down until its publish date…

The Friday Muse – NaNoWriMo Excerpt #2

Well, we’re nearing the middle of November, and I’m happy to say that I’m ‘write’ on track with my novel writing goals for NaNoWriMo. I’m currently sitting at 23,488 words (almost halfway through the challenge), and I have some decent meat going on the bones of these stories. I figured I’d share another small excerpt from my novel with you guys. This piece comes from a short story tentatively called Tamriel – and for those of you who are fans of my Black Earth series, you’ll recognize that name as the mysterious woman who entices Daisy in the Dark Garden in the series. This is part of her backstory when…

    The Friday Muse – unLoved

Amidst the workload I’ve taken on putting this publishing company together, I’ve been trying to find time to sit down and work on some fiction shorts that I can submit to the company’s upcoming anthology. Finding the time to do so has been more difficult than first perceived, but I do at least have an idea of the stories I want to write out. One of them is a story that has been rolling around in my head for weeks now. The title of it is unLoved, and from what I gather so far, it’s a story about a girl imprisoned on a space vessel. She’s been beaten and bruised…
