    One In Seven Thousand

Dark times abound. Our worlds crumble around us. Friends betray their morals, family turns on us. Those who used to surround us in their encouragement and faith have turned away from God and now pursue the siren’s song of sinful impulses and false doctrine. The Word is no longer followed, men (and women) become lovers of self, and the pillars of integrity and faith are destroyed in an effort to become ‘free’ of religious constraints. Have you ever experienced times like these? Maybe now, maybe in the past? It’s in these times that I personally feel like a minority. I feel alone. Not physically alone. Spiritually alone. Those who walked…

    Confronting The Darkness

“You might try then, as I did, to find a sky so full of stars it will blind you again. Only no sky can blind you now. Even with all that iridescent magic up there, your eye will no longer trace constellations. You’ll care only about the darkness and you’ll watch it for hours, for days, maybe even for years, trying in vain to believe you’re some kind of indispensable universe-appointed sentinel, as if just by looking you could actually keep it all at bay. It will get so bad you’ll be afraid to look away, you’ll be afraid to sleep.” – Mark Danielewski Darkness. It can come in many…

    The Poison Of Procrastination

We all do it. At some point during the day, we put something off for later.Due to restraints in time, restraints in resources, or restraints in our own will to do something, tasks are moved around, marked as unimportant, or dissolved altogether to make room for other, seemingly more important tasks. Little do we know how much trouble we are causing for ourselves. Procrastination is a beast that is never satisfied with what you feed it. I experience a struggle with procrastination every single day of my life. No matter how hard I try, there’s always a temptation to put things off for later. Small tasks, medium-sized projects, even large…

    One More

One more step. One more swing. One more shot. One more word. One more strike. One more attempt. One more. Your victory is just around the corner. One more corner. Don’t give up now. The voices will tell you to quit, to shut down, to plead surrender. Your friends will tell you to throw in the towel, to fold, to count your losses. Your family will tell you to give it up, to face reality, to get real. But your time is coming. Rest, but don’t quit. Hang on one more day. One more moment. One more…

    Get Up…

Life can be rough. Scratch that, life is rough. Rougher than we think it should be sometimes. And there are many times life will do more than just leave us with a few scratches and scrapes. Sometimes, life will knock us to the floor and expect us to stay there until our dying breath. It is easily assumed that only the strong survive in this life. The adjoining assumption is that the strong don’t get knocked down. So in essence, the weak are the ones who are knocked down, and in turn, do not survive. That’s wrong on a number of different levels. I’ve seen many people fall in my…

    A Dangerous Comparison

It’s tough nowadays to look around at our society and feel or experience the sting of jealousy. We see a friend acquire a brand new house when we’re still eeking by in an apartment two sizes too small for us. We see the couple who has barely known each other for two months already planning their wedding when we’ve been waiting for Mr/Mrs Right since 1905. We see the successes of our peers – promotions, more money, worldwide fame – and we’re still working 70 hours a week in our basement crafting Youtube videos we hope will garner more than five followers this week. Comparison runs abound. It’s easy to…

    Sleeping Near The Edge

Some of you are sleeping near the edge. You’re hesitating on jumping, close to ending your life. You’re waiting for that ‘one more thing’ to go wrong, for that ‘final straw’ to push you over the edge. When it happens, you plan on jumping. Please, don’t. You have so much to live for. So much beauty in this world to experience. So many fantastic things to explore. You’re in a rough patch. You’re having a hard time pushing through. It’s hard to see the forest for the trees when you’re stuck in such thick fog. But there are hands to help you through it. Friends. Family. God. Don’t give up.…

    Dramatic Exits

There used to be a time, not that long ago, when I was in love with chaos and unrest. I know, that sounds kind of ‘evil’ in a sense, but it’s true. There was a time when I loved when things in my life were in a state of unrest, when there was no structure or quiet, when there was always a crisis that needed my attention. As the years have gone by, I’ve come to detest that need for crisis. I’ve learned to enjoy the quiet, the peaceful moments of my life. I’ve come to appreciate the calm in the midst of all the storms, instead of obsessing over…

    In The Company Of Excuses

He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else. – Benjamin Franklin Excuses. They’re everywhere. Like Christmas stuff near Halloween. Like construction barrels when you’re late for work. Like friends when you come into money. We have excuses for everything… I can’t help you because – I didn’t reach my goal because – I meant to do such and such, but I didn’t because – Because. It’s not true though, is it? You’re under an illusion. You think the word, ‘because’, means that what you’re stating is a legitimate reason for giving up, giving in, neglecting your responsibilities, ignoring your destiny. Put the excuses away. In…
