The Friday Muse – Solitude
Today’s Friday Muse piece turned out to be more of a character sketch than a self-contained story idea. But it certainly has promise to become a story. A man taken captive while a deadly plague wreaks havoc on the world…

The Friday Muse – More Red Crane
Well, as of my weekly writing meeting last night at the local coffee shop, I’m about half way through the first draft of Red Crane. I’m getting more and more excited about this project as I dive deeper into it, mainly because its something outside the realm of what I’m used to writing. Instead of science fiction and fantasy, it’s detective, mystery, and a dash of noir. So, for today’s Friday Muse piece, I figured I’d give you all one more sneak peek at some of the story before I decide to lock it down until its publish date…

The Friday Muse – Future Plans
I don’t really have any new fiction to post today, but I have been working on some new fiction. Many of you who follow the blog know I started dabbling in a supernatural detective-type story, and I’m happy to say that I outlined it last night at my coffee shop writing meeting that I participate in each week with my buddy Jelani. This is a short story that I plan on releasing in March – the first of the monthly short stories that I want to start putting out on a regular basis. Red Crane is a supernatural detective tale about a man – Detective Hale – who is plagued…

The Friday Muse – Crimson Rose
Today’s Friday Muse piece is based on a writing prompt I participated in many years ago and never published. The story has piqued my curiosity enough to want to possibly expand upon this in the coming months. For now, here’s the writing prompt and my literary piece to the prompt.

The Friday Muse – Detective Hale
Months ago, I posted a Friday Muse piece entitled: Red Crane. It was a small snippet about a detective tracking a serial killer who leaves blood-stained origami cranes as calling cards with his victims. I’ve been wanting to dive further down that rabbit hole ever since, so last night at my weekly writing meeting, I sketched out some more of Detective Hale’s story. Enjoy!

The Friday Muse – Legion Theory
Today’s Friday Muse piece ponders Legion Theory – the theory of possession by the alien entity found in my Black Earth novels. Legion Theory “It’s only a theory, Rezmalfen. I can’t base decisions on theories alone.” Rezmalfen sighed loudly, unafraid to let Snendinky know he was supremely irritated with the man’s lack of vision. “I understand it’s only a theory, but that is what our work is based on. We are scientists.”

The Friday Muse – Contessa
Well, I’m back with The Friday Muse. Today’s piece is a bit that I wrote that takes place after Earth has been overrun and nearly destroyed by evil. A lone wanderer known as Contessa has to decide if she wants to join one of the survivor groups or continue wandering the planet on her own.

The Friday Muse – NaNoWriMo Excerpt #3
Well, I crossed 33,000 words last night in my NaNoWriMo novel. I’m making pretty good progress, but I’m also skirting fate. I have my hand in a half dozen projects, almost all of which have to do with my publishing company, and NaNoWriMo is having to whine to gain my attention in the thick of it all. That being said, I’ve never not won a NaNo in the past ten years that I’ve participated in it, so this year will be no different. Today’s excerpt is from a story I have tentatively titled, “Carriers”. It’s actually the back story to Janet Doyle, the news reporter in my Expired Reality series.…

The Friday Muse – NaNoWriMo Excerpt #2
Well, we’re nearing the middle of November, and I’m happy to say that I’m ‘write’ on track with my novel writing goals for NaNoWriMo. I’m currently sitting at 23,488 words (almost halfway through the challenge), and I have some decent meat going on the bones of these stories. I figured I’d share another small excerpt from my novel with you guys. This piece comes from a short story tentatively called Tamriel – and for those of you who are fans of my Black Earth series, you’ll recognize that name as the mysterious woman who entices Daisy in the Dark Garden in the series. This is part of her backstory when…
